One of the main things that attracted me to search engine optimisation is that there is a lot more to it than people first think. It’s not just about gaining large amounts of website traffic – if all of these new visitors aren’t easily finding what they want on your site they will leave, it’s as simple as that!
Once someone hits your website, you want to make sure they are fulfilling your business objectives – be it a sale, or a different call to action that will ultimately improve return on investment. This process of ‘converting’ a visitor into a customer is what I’m finding really interesting as a newbie to the SEO world.
When it comes to website traffic, it is all about quality over quantity – so gaining targeted visitors – ones that have some idea of what to expect once on site, is important for conversion optimisation.
Being found through a search engine, or getting links from relevant sources back to your site is only the start – once someone hits your site you need to make sure the landing pages are designed in a way that will boost conversion. Things to consider would be navigation, relevance and images – read more about creating a landing page that converts!
